EXPENSES

In 2020, Mazon spent $1,173,620. Of that, $914,400 was spent charitable activities in support of our mission to fight hunger. We accomplish a lot with a small staff of 3 people and a modest office space, and keep our focus on feeding the hungry. We spent 78% of our expenses on charitable activities and grants, 13% on administration and 9% on fundraising:

REVENUE

In 2020, Mazon received $1,011,401 in revenue. Most Canadian charities rely on significant government and public foundation funding: between 27% and 70% from government sources on average, depending on their size (x). A Jewish community organization, MAZON Canada is different: almost all our revenue was from individual Jewish people and families (and our allies!) - including personal giving, family foundations, gifts from small Jewish-run businesses.

BY DOLLARS RAISED

BY NUMBER OF GIFTS

As you can see, the vast majority of gifts to Mazon are small gifts - in fact, our median gift in 2020 was only $54. These small gifts add up to show the true strength and generosity of the Jewish Community.

Mazon rarely pursues government funding, preferring to remain independent and representative of our Jewish community through grassroots fundraising. However, in 2020, we were offered the chance to apply for an invitation-only round of funding through the Province of Ontario's Local Food Infrastructure Fund - and decided we couldn't look a gift horse in the mouth! This unusual choice provided $73,528 of equipment and infrastructure for our partners in 2020 (and more in 2021).

DONATIONS BY CAMPAIGN

Curious how, when, and why Mazon donors give? Learn more:

Our fundraising shows a strong, committed donor base - and indeed, many of our donors have been giving for decades. We've grown our holiday campaigns from $50,000 campaigns to $100,000 campaigns in the last few years. Our biggest focuses for growth are monthly giving, third-party fundraising, and sustaining gifts over $5000. In 2021, please consider signing up to be a Hunger Fighter (monthly giver), contacting us about fundraising in your community, or emailing our Executive Director, Izzy Waxman, to have a conversation about a sustaining gift.
