MEET

mazon

MA·ZON (mah’ZOHN)
Hebrew for food, nourishment & sustenance.

MAZON Canada is a grassroots community foundation that feeds both Jewish and non-Jewish Canadians in need by supporting front-line food projects across the country.

Our partners include food banks, school nutrition programs, hot meals at shelters, community garden projects, and more.

Each year, we provide hundreds of grants to these partner programs – helping them purchase food, fridges, freezers, and garden supplies to strengthen their programs and feed their communities.

In 2022, Mazon provided 360,000 meals
through 262 partner programs
in 89 Canadian towns and cities.

MAZON'S GUIDING BELIEFS

Tzedakah (Charity)

Restoring Justice

Righteousness, justice and fairness are key Jewish values that are central to Tzedakah (Charity) – Restoring Justice. MAZON Canada’s approach to hunger relief and social justice is based on Tzedakah and the fundamental obligation that Jews have a duty to help vulnerable individuals and families in our midst ultimately become self-sufficient.

Tikkun Olam

Repairing the World

Dedicated to the concept of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World), MAZON Canada promotes the elimination of hunger in recognition that we can work towards the betterment of the world and the lives of future generations. Together, we have a collective responsibility to end hunger in Canadian communities.

Inclusion

Serving All Canadians

MAZON Canada understands that the full realization of our Jewish values involves supporting all Canadians who are hungry and lack access to affordable, nutritious food. We therefore support, on a non-denominational basis, direct service organizations that alleviate hunger for Canadians from all backgrounds.

Human Dignity

No One Should Go Hungry

MAZON Canada is guided by the fundamental Jewish belief in the essential dignity of all human beings.  Central to survival and to dignity is the basic right to sustenance and food. To this end, MAZON Canada is committed to ensuring Canadians have access to healthy, nutritious food in a dignified and respectful way.
