PASSOVER FOOD SECURITY BULLETIN


Passover themes often bring to mind contemporary injustices.

Because, even we gather around the Seder table,

1.4 million Canadian children go hungry.




Every Passover, we reach across time, myth and memory

to cultivate empathy for those whose lives were very different from our own.

People born in Egypt, into slavery, thousands of years ago.



Research shows that when we practice empathy it gets stronger - like a muscle.

So is it any wonder that, on Passover, our attention is drawn

to the experience of those less fortunate?




In Canada, more than 5.8 million people are going hungry.

Including, last year, 1.4 million children.




But, through Mazon, the Jewish community is helping. Across Canada, our partner programs are working tirelessly to support children and families under pressure.


One such program is York Region Food For Learning (quoted above), a longstanding partner that provides food aid in dozens of schools across York Region, Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket, and beyond,
