ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEE RECRUITMENT

MAZON Canada, the Jewish Response to Hunger, grants funds to food projects that impact people of all ages, ethnicities, faiths and abilities on behalf of the Jewish community of Canada.

We are currently recruiting new members for our Allocations Committee.

Who we're looking for:

  • We are always looking to add the right people, especially those who have experienced poverty, food insecurity, or front-line non-profit work themselves.

  • More than formal expertise in financials or management, we're looking for people with kind hearts who want to listen, learn, and ask questions to help us make the best choices with our limited funding.

  • We're prioritizing people who belong to demographics and communities most impacted by food insecurity: Black, Indigenous, disabled, trans, etc. A $200 honorarium is available to any Committee Member, with the intention to make the process accessible to low-income participants. (Financially secure participants are encouraged to opt-out.)

What you'll do:

  • As a Reviewer on the Allocations Committee, you will read and evaluate a small portfolio of applications, contacting applicants as necessary for clarifications.

  • You'll use a standardized, point-based rubric to evaluate applications. The more points earned, the more funding they receive. Organizations receive points for things like: serving healthy food, having high financial need, being the only source of food in their area, supporting specific vulnerable populations, supporting clients with housing or employment, etc. All criteria are carefully defined.

  • Our process is always evolving in response to feedback from applicants and committee members, with a recent focus on accessibility and equity. We are currently working with an Indigenous Community Consultant to continue our learning towards solidarity and equity, and to develop our grantmaking process for future years.
