MAZON Canada, the Jewish Response to Hunger, grants funds to food projects that impact people of all ages, ethnicities, faiths and abilities on behalf of the Jewish community of Canada.
We are currently recruiting new members for our Allocations Committee.
Who we're looking for:
We are always looking to add the right people, especially those who have experienced poverty, food insecurity, or front-line non-profit work themselves.
More than formal expertise in financials or management, we're looking for people with kind hearts who want to listen, learn, and ask questions to help us make the best choices with our limited funding.
We're prioritizing people who belong to demographics and communities most impacted by food insecurity: Black, Indigenous, disabled, trans, etc. A $200 honorarium is available to any Committee Member, with the intention to make the process accessible to low-income participants. (Financially secure participants are encouraged to opt-out.)
What you'll do:
As a Reviewer on the Allocations Committee, you will read and evaluate a small portfolio of applications, contacting applicants as necessary for clarifications.
You'll use a standardized, point-based rubric to evaluate applications. The more points earned, the more funding they receive. Organizations receive points for things like: serving healthy food, having high financial need, being the only source of food in their area, supporting specific vulnerable populations, supporting clients with housing or employment, etc. All criteria are carefully defined.
Our process is always evolving in response to feedback from applicants and committee members, with a recent focus on accessibility and equity. We are currently working with an Indigenous Community Consultant to continue our learning towards solidarity and equity, and to develop our grantmaking process for future years.
Please review this PDF for more information, including role overview, time commitment, calendar, accessibility, and application details. Please share this page and document with anyone you feel may be interested and qualified:
TO APPLY: Please send the following to our Executive Director, Izzy Waxman, by the end of Sept 12th at iwaxman@mazoncanada.ca:
a description of why you'd like to join the committee (1-2 paragraphs is fine)
a summary of relevant experience, including professional, volunteer, organizing, front-line, and lived experience (as a brief paragraph or resume).
Only applicants moving to interview will be contacted.

When EssayPay Turned My Notes Into a Coherent Essay
Man, I remember that night last semester when I stared at my laptop screen, surrounded by crumpled sticky notes covered in half-baked ideas about quantum mechanics for my physics elective. I'd been grinding through lectures at my state university, juggling a part-time job at the campus coffee shop, and trying not to drown in the stress of midterms. As an American kid who's grown up here in the Midwest, I've always figured I'd power through college the old-fashioned way—late nights, caffeine highs, and sheer willpower. But honestly, the pressure was building up, and I felt this knot in my stomach thinking about how my scattered thoughts might tank my grade. That's…
