HOW WE HELP

MAZON Canada is a grassroots community foundation that feeds both Jewish and non-Jewish Canadians in need by supporting front-line food projects across the country.

HOW MAZON
FEEDS THE
HUNGRY:

Each year, over 4 MILLION CANADIANS struggle to afford basic necessities and are forced to choose between food and other critical expenses such as rent and medication.

1 in 6 Canadian children under the age of 18  affected by household food insecurity, with 60% of children in Nunavut facing hunger every day.

There are thousands of hunger relief programs in Canada. Food banks, shelters, school nutrition programs, community gardens and more work tirelessly to support their community members who are struggling with food insecurity. They know the needs of their local communities best, but many of them are underfunded, making it difficult to meet the needs of their clients.

WHEN CANADIANS GO HUNGRY, THE JEWISH COMMUNITY CARES.

MAZON Canada is how we do something about it -
TOGETHER!

MAZON provides these community-led organizations across the country with grants to feed better food in bigger quantities to more people than ever before. That makes it possible for them to meet the needs of the communities they serve.

"Thanks to support for the nutrition program at Lawrence Heights Middle School, students have been able to enjoy a healthy meal on a daily basis while at the same time learning the skills of preparing healthy food and why it’s so essential to their health and wellness. Thank you for your continued support of our students and communities."

MAZON PRIORITIZES PARTNERS THAT:

  • serve healthy, nutritious food

  • are the only source of food in their area

  • are small with limited resources

  • are grassroots (powered mostly by volunteers and community donations)

  • and support the demographics most vulnerable hunger, or who face barriers at traditional food programs

GROCERY GRANTS

These grants are for organizations buying food directly for people in need. This is the most urgent aspect of our work, and represents the majority of our grants.

GEAR GRANTS

These grants help organizations buy equipment that builds their capacities for feeding the hungry, like fridges to receive rescued food, or vans to deliver it.

GARDEN GRANTS

These grants buy supplies for community gardens, teaching people in need to grow their own food and helping organizations feed healthy fruits and vegetables to their clients.

ADVOCACY GRANTS

These grants support activists and advocates with the resources to tackle hunger at the very root and empower thought-leaders to do research, design policies, launch or expand campaigns that work towards ending hunger in Canada.
