HOW

WE

HELP

OVER 5.8 MILLION CANADIANS  EXPERIENCE FOOD INSECURITY

Being food insecure doesn't "just" mean being hungry. It means being forced, regularly, to choose between food for your family and other critical expenses such as rent and medication.

The number of food insecure Canadians has grown by 1.4 million since 2019 and food bank use has continued to climb - reaching record levels in 2022 that surpassed even lockdown hights.

THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF
FOOD AID PROGRAMS IN CANADA

This network of food banks, shelters, school nutrition programs, and drop-ins provide support to tens of thousands of people in need every single day.

The staff and volunteers on the front lines see how their clients are struggling and often know what they would need to have a fighting chance... Unfortunately, most food aid programs are chronically underfunded, making it difficult to meet the needs of clients.

"Thanks to support for the nutrition program at Lawrence Heights Middle School, students have been able to enjoy a healthy meal on a daily basis while at the same time learning the skills of preparing healthy food and why it’s so essential to their health and wellness. Thank you for your continued support of our students and communities."

MAZON PRIORITIZES PARTNERS THAT:

  • Are the only source of food in their area

  • Operate with small budgets / with limited resources

  • Are grassroots (powered mostly by volunteers)

  • Support demographics most vulnerable hunger, or who face barriers at most food programs

  • Offer wrap around supports (eg. access to mental health services, employment opportunities, etc)

  • Exist in solidarity with their community (eg. staff members and leadership share lived experience with clients)

GROCERY GRANTS

These grants are for organizations buying food directly for people in need. This is the most urgent aspect of our work, and represents the majority of our grants.

GEAR GRANTS

These grants make long-term investments and build capacity by helping organizations buy or replace critical equipment like fridges and freezers, or delivery vans.

GARDEN GRANTS

These grants buy supplies for
community gardens, teaching people in need to grow their own food and helping organizations feed healthy fruits and vegetables to their clients
.

INNOVATIVE GRANTS

These grants exist to support our most innovative partner programs as they launch bold new programs, build capacity, or invest in advocacy work to   tackle hunger at the very root.
