2021 EMERGENCY
OMICRON GRANTS
When the Omicron variant (and accompanying lockdowns) arrived, the need for food aid once again skyrocketed. MAZON took action on all the hard lessons learned in these last two hard years to act - and fast.
Launched in late December with a goal of $50,000, we promised that every dollar raised in our Omicron Emergency Campaign would support our front-line partners within 90 days - with ZERO overhead!
Mazon supporters swarmed to act, fighting "pandemic fatigue" to meet the needs of vulnerable people as schools closed and a cold snap threatened the safety of people living without shelter. And our staff got to work, forming a fast action plan to target the areas and demographics that we knew, from 2 years of harsh lessons, would be hit the hardest by the wave: children and families, homeless communities, and regions with the strictest lockdowns and highest case rates.
We met our goal in just one week, and all $50,000 of your gifts were distributed to our partners in only 36 days!

TRANSPARENCY
Decisions were made according to a framework developed by the Mazon Canada team in December 2021 to aid in effectively mobilizing emergency Omicron funding to areas of greatest need.
The framework requires a three-step process for fund disbursement: Identification, Outreach, and Unconditional Support (I.O.U).
The guiding intent in developing this IOU framework was to create a transparent and equitable system by which Mazon honours the trust placed in us by our donors and our front line partners, while rising to the urgent demands of a looming crisis.
