Jewish Family Services of Vancouver Island

What does grassroots organizing look like? It looks like Jewish Family Services of Vancouver Island, an all-volunteer group that serves the needs of the Jewish vulnerable. Their services include program referrals and food subsidies, and even provide specific care for Holocaust survivors. But with all that to do, these busy volunteers don’t have much time to fundraise. That’s why it’s so critical that MAZON Canada provides funds for their year-round food supplement programs.

JFSVI has a great approach to feeding the hungry: When accepted into their food program, clients are given a grocery gift card! It means clients can buy fresh, healthy perishables like milk and vegetables, and have full choice over which items to bring home. It also means they can feed themselves with dignity. That’s a critical goal any social service, but JFSVI’s model truly excels.

JFSVI also lift spirits through Food Baskets, sending items required to celebrate Jewish holidays throughout the year to individuals and families who can’t afford luxuries like honey cake, donuts, or Hamantaschen.

Thank you, JFSVI! Mazon is proud to support your work!
